MyRide Lawrence County has been highly successful. They have recruited 39 riders, trained 22 volunteers, and completed 402 trips (as of April 20, 2019). This is an amazing start for a program that is only been in operation for a short time. With this tremendous success, SCAAAD is already in the planning stages for its second program.
The SCAAAD operates within the South Central Tennessee Development District (SCTDD). Jerry Mansfield is the Executive Director of the SCTDD and Joe Evans is the Director of the SCAAAD. The office is located at 101 Sam Watkins Blvd., Mt. Pleasant, TN 38474 and the office can be reached at 931-379-2929. MyRide Lawrence Driver Spotlight
Tim Clifton was one of Lawrence County’s first volunteers to sign up as a MyRide volunteer driver; he joined the team at the Public Forum Kickoff event. Tim had recently retired; he was overweight and had low self esteem, which caused him to do his shopping late nights so that he didn’t have to see many people.
After losing 100 lbs., Tim started feeling better about his health and about himself, so he started to get out more, and he said “God has been so good to me -- I feel this is a payback to Him. Volunteering for this program is my calling.” Tim received an award at the Second Round Kickoff and Volunteer Appreciation event in May for his outstanding volunteer efforts. He has been a volunteer driver since December 2018 and has provided more than 60 rides to date.
