MyRide Upper Cumberland – Putnam Co.
A unique feature of MyRide Upper Cumberland is that it is operated under contract with Upper Cumberland Human Resources Agency (UCHRA). The UCHRA also has a transportation service which utilizes a fleet of vans for transport. With this program already working smoothly, the addition of volunteer transportation seemed like a natural fit. The UCHRA began by developing logos, marketing materials, securing a toll free number, purchasing software and volunteer insurance. The UCHRA also hired two individuals to oversee the program both on a regional level and county level.
In January 2019, staff developed volunteer recruitment and marketing plans; implemented the Assisted Rides software; recruited and trained 20 volunteers; and signed up 20 riders. The first ride occurred February 21, 2019. The following are details of trips provided February 21-April 24, 2019:
• 15 round trip rides; • 21 destinations; • 36 total trips;
• 239 miles driven; • 30 hours and 45 minutes of driving time;
• 7 volunteers transported 7 riders; • Purpose of Rides: 9 to doctor appointments, 2 for shopping, 2 for social outings, 1 to a restaurant, 1 to the Veterans Affairs Office.
This program also was awarded a grant in the amount of $1,000 by the local Wal- Mart. This grant will be used to pay for the annual membership fee for those who are low-income and in need of financial assistance.
