MyRide Jonesborough, MyRide Johnson County, and MyRide Kingsport
The First Tennessee Area Agency on Aging and Disability (FTAAAD) has implemented three very successful MyRide programs that provide door- through-door transportation. The locations of these programs were identified through a series of meetings and discussions during senior center quarterly meetings and other core group meetings such as the FTAAAD Advisory Council.
The three groups to step forward and champion the program were the
Johnson County Senior Center, Jonesborough Senior Center and Contact 211 of Northeast Tennessee. FTAAAD hired a Volunteer Transportation Coordinator
in July of 2018 to assist with the development of the programs. Individual steering committees were set up and local coordinators were hired for each of the programs. The steering committees set policies and procedures, annual and round trip cost, and target areas for all three individual programs.
Once each program had 10 volunteers that were vetted through background checks, they were trained on the Assisted Rides software program. The steering committees then set their own independent start dates with Johnson County launching on November 5, 2018; Jonesborough launching on December
4, 2018; and Kingsport launching April 9, 2019. Each program had ample news coverage with local television and radio stations involved as well as social media coverage. Each program has held quarterly steering committee meetings, quarterly driver meetings and continues with volunteer and rider recruitment efforts.
