TEAMWORK AND LEADERSHIP
Team-Made Millionaires
As you saw in each case study, the three building blocks of Teamwork, Leadership, and Conditioning support and
drive the Wealth Cycle Process. It’s important for you to reflect on each of these as you begin to consider your
wealth plan.
There is no such thing as a self-made millionaire. It’s just impossible to do without a peer-to-peer team of
mentors, financiers, field partners, and colleagues. Team-Made Millionaires work for and with each other to
generate wealth.
While working on the team, you should always be aware of what position you are playing and when. In your
personal wealth-building efforts, you must never, ever give anyone else permission to lead you, abdicate your
leadership role, or release responsibility or accountability on any decision. You are the leader of your own wealth.
And as long as you remain aware of the fact that the final responsibilities and accountabilities are yours, you can
listen to others’ advice and take their suggestions. This includes mentors and coaches who might ask you to take on
the discomfort of change that is necessary for your growth. If you assume responsibility and you have chosen
coaches whom you feel you can trust absolutely, then you can allow yourself to surrender to their suggestions, take
the actions they prescribe, get uncomfortable, and grow. The best leaders are great followers because they know
where they are going and they trust themselves enough to find good leaders to help get them there.
In our Team-Made Millionaire community, one in which we hope you’ll be a part, you might hear us ask one
another who wants to play. We use the word play because making money is fun. We all take wealth building very
seriously, but many people on my team have enough to live on for years to come, and our children are well taken
care of. Investing is an exciting and fun world in which to play, and none of us are ever going to stop looking for the
bigger, better game. Ask any investment banker, portfolio manager, or trader what a good day is and he or she will
tell you the ins and outs and excitement of a deal. Believe me, it’s the fun and excitement, even more than the
money, that keeps my wealth team completely engaged.
If it weren’t a satisfying game, my team wouldn’t still be helping me and I wouldn’t still be helping them. Just as
I’ve captured others with my vision, they’ve captured me with theirs. In my wealth-building community, it’s about
all of us, together.
It’s imperative that you assemble a great team of great people whom you can lead to your success. The reality is,
in today’s complex, fast-paced world, few people have the time or talent to do everything expertly themselves, even
if they want to. You may be the most far-seeing visionary, brilliant deal maker, toughest negotiator, and finest
closer, but you may not be an inspired tax wizard, legal genius, or office manager.
Finding a Mentor
Getting a mentor is a vital first step to building your wealth. If you’re floundering about in frustration or operating in
a community that offers less support than it does hindrance, you want to pursue a mentor soon.
Finding a mentor can be easy for some and harder for others. If you are one of the lucky few who have the person
you admire most presiding in the house next door, go knock on that door. But if, as is more likely, your community
or immediate neighborhood is bereft of those in the bigger, better world to which you aspire, you need to reach out a
little further. Team-Made Millionaires are made through networking and contacts and creating a community of
mentors, leaders, and fellow visionaries. Here are some things to keep in mind and ways to find a mentor.
Communicate Your Ambition
You’ll discover that just by talking and sharing your vision with others, you will start to generate forward motion.
Of the many people you talk to about your vision, or just your desire to have a bigger and better vision, if one of
them can advise you on that vision or can connect you to someone who can, that’s a big step into a better and bigger
network.
