NETWORK SUPER SUNDAY SESSIONS
Talent Development Models: Implications for Arts Pedagogy and Psychosocial Skill Responses
Presenters: David Dai & Rena Subotnik
Join experts, David Dai & Rena Subotnik, for overviews and distinctions with two talent development models ideal for the Arts.
Dr. Dai will share Evolving Complexity Theory (ECT) with a focus on its implications for arts pedagogy. Dr. Subotnik will share the
Megamodel (TDMM) with a focus on psychosocial skills and “insider knowledge” to guide teacher interactions with talented art
students.
Resisting the Void: Transforming the INVISIBLE to VISIBLE for Gifted LGBTQ+ Students
Presenters: Alena Treat, Orla Dunne
When the gifted teacher and curriculum describe the world and gifted LGBTQ+ (G/LGBTQ+) individuals are not represented (ARE
INVISIBLE), it causes psychic disequilibrium for G/LGBTQ+ students. Other conditions also make them feel unwelcome. This
presentation will share recommendations and a curriculum "starting kit" to transform gifted programs from INVISIBLE to VISIBLE
and help G/LGBTQ+ students feel safe, included, and welcomed.
Speed Geeking!
Presenters: Shirley Farrell and Janine Firmender
Come get your geek on with the Computers and Technology Network! Speed Geeking, a perennial favorite among techie-minded
NAGC conference-goers, is a lively morning in which members of the network pitch their favorite technology tools and strategies
in rapid succession. Oohs and aahs from the crowd are encouraged, and walk-on geeks are welcome! Novice and experienced
users of educational technology walk away with at least one new idea, courtesy of your geeky colleagues from the Computers and
Technology Network.
Help for the Helpers: Trauma-Based Support for Gifted Educators
Presenter: Claire Hughes
Working with gifted children reflects the learners - it is intense and challenging. Student mental health during the pandemic has
been a focus, but the specific mental health needs of gifted educators must also be addressed. This session will provide specific
internally- and externally-based self-directed professional learning strategies that can be used to help educators find their own joy
and emerge resilient.
A Critical Conversation With I-URGGE: Sparking Culturally Responsive Change in Gifted
Presenters: Javetta Jones Roberson, Ken Dickson, Joy Davis, Erinn Fears Floyd, Kristina Collins
A significant topic in education is the need for culturally responsive educators supporting diverse student populations in schools and
advanced programs. In this panel session, Black scholars of the Consortium for Inclusion of Underrepresented Racial Groups in Gifted
Education (I-URGGE) will offer examples, strategies, data (state, national and international) on gifted programming, and inclusive
pedagogies that support all gifted students.
We've Got an Equity Statement. Now What?
Presenters: Tiffany Blassingame and Laura Szymanski
You've read NAGC's Championing for Equity statement. You've attended the town hall meetings. You are inspired to make change
for students in your gifted school or program. But you're just not sure where to start. Or you've started and you're unsure of how
to move the work forward. There are five major components to managing complex change within our schools. This session will
identify those five components and how to use the Championing for Equity statement to develop and implement DEI statements,
initiatives, and practices within a gifted school or program.
