CALIFORNIA – Melanie Kramer
Unified Schools District Adult School Campus – Riverside, CA
Located on the Unified Schools District Adult School Campus in Riverside, CA, the CVS Health Workforce Initiatives mock store helps individuals with disabilities train for jobs with CVS Health. A result of collaboration between Workforce Initiatives, the Department of Education Riverside, and WorkAbility I, the store was created in 2015 through a WorkAbility I grant—the first of its kind on the West Coast. It serves as a training facility to teach retail skills to students, ages 19-22, who are enrolled in the Riverside District’s Transition Education Model (T.E.A.M.)
CONNECTICUT – Amanda Tierney
Chapel Haven – New Haven, CT
Chapel Haven is a residential school and independent living facility providing lifelong services for people with disabilities. CVS Health Workforce Initiatives opened an on-site mock store in 2018, providing pre-employment job skills instruction. Individuals completing the training are eligible to apply for employment with CVS Health.
GEORGIA – Mike Romesburg
Shiloh High School – Liburn, GA
School-based pharmacies are an innovative approach to developing an external talent pipeline of students to be exposed to CVS Health Pharmacy Technician training and other career opportunities with CVS Health. The first high school-based mock pharmacy in Georgia, and only the second in the country, opened at Gwinnett County Public School’s Shiloh High School in 2017. The CVS Health Workforce Initiatives pharmacy program at Shiloh provides classroom training focused on pharmacy operations and fundamentals, followed by hands-on training and role-playing in the mock pharmacy, and a job shadow exercise at a local CVS pharmacy.
