P. 6
Preparing for a course
Faculty members must spend some time preparing for each topic to be delivered. The following
information should be considered when preparing a topic for class:
1. The learning objectives of the topic
E.g.
Topic: The Structure and Function of the Cell
Learning Objectives:
I. List all the major cell organelles
II. Outline the structure and function of the cell
III. Draw a schematic of each cell type
IV. Discuss the process of cell transport
V. Differentiate between the different types of cells
2. Required reading material for each topic: Faculty can utilize the electronic library to source
resources for the course. View the tutorial for 'How to Access the Library'
https://youtu.be/Ezpx1ibmV7Q
3. Questions that can be attained from the topics and how they match the Program Learning
Objectives * These questions can be used during the summative assessment examinations and
quizzes. It is important to link each question to the program learning objectives on Examsoft so
that we can track students' competencies in achieving the specific objectives. This exercise will
assist in improving the validity of the assessment. Please view the Examsoft instruction videos'.
*NB:
- The Program Learning Objectives are the objectives of the whole
Program eg. program Learning objectives of Premedical Sciences, or
the Doctor of Medicine Program.
- The Course Learning Objectives are the objectives of a course eg. course
learning objective of the Cell and Molecular Biology course or the
Foundations of Medicine Course.
- The Topic Learning Objectives are specific to the topic being taught eg.
The learning objectives of the Introduction to Cell.
4. What assignments that can contribute to the achievement of the topics and/or course learning
outcome? These assignments can be added to the workbook or the required assignment and/or
