Standard Operating Procedure – Requesting Counselling
Primary Responsibility: Student Affairs Officer
Secondary Responsibility: Administrator
Definition: The Student Affairs Office provides counseling services for students of Georgetown American
University.
Purpose: To create a standardized process for requesting counseling services from the Student Affairs
Department. The Director of Student Affairs will grant the final decision of the request.
Time Frame: Requested at any time
Procedures:
Making Request
Step 1 • Student meets with Student Affairs Director to
determine eligibility or referral for services
Step 2 • Students not eligible will be referred for
services outside University.
Step 3 • Students eligible complete New Client
Information sheet at the time of their first
session per academic year.
Step 4 • Student is given a Consent for Services form to
sign and return (once agree with terms and
conditions) to Students Affairs Director.
