Apart from medical practice and education, Prof. Jin actively participated in writing books.
For the past half-century, he has published dozens of articles in journals at home and abroad and
co-authored dozens of textbooks and monographs. From 1981 to 1997, he held the post as a
standing member of the editorial board of the Chinese Journal of Anesthesiology and deputy-
editor-in-chief of the Journal of Clinical Anesthesiology. In 2000, he was invited by Science
Press to write a preface for the photocopy of a world-renowned anesthetic monograph
               (Anesthesia 5th, ed. by Miller).

Prof. Jin is not only an outstanding medical expert, but also an excellent activist in foreign
affairs. As one of five representatives of the Ministry of Health of China, he was invited to attend
the “China Week” activities held by Saarland University in Germany in October 1982 (Figure 2).
From September 1984 to March 1985, he was hired as a visiting professor at the Institute of
Anesthesiology, Saarland University in Germany. On January 29th, 1985, Prof. Jin was invited
and made an academic report about medical education in China, anesthetic management of
orthotopic liver transplantation, and continuous epidural anesthesia at the School of Medicine,
Saarland University in Germany. His report was broadly welcomed and was reported by the local
newspaper on February 1st, 1985. German Red Cross awarded him a Certificate of Honor for his
significant contribution to the medical development between China and German. For years he
represented China to attend many international academic conferences, give lectures at the
conferences and bring honors to China. Prof. Jin visited more than ten countries and built good
cooperation relationship with many world-class universities.

Professor Shi-ao Jin (front row, second from right) attended the “China Week” activities held by
Saarland University in Germany in October 1982.

Prof. Jin is modest, eager to learn, and strict with himself. He has developed a meticulous
academic attitude and a pragmatic style. In his spare time, Prof. Jin lays tremendous emphasis on
self-cultivation and health care. He is a man of versatile tastes and is well-read about tourism and
geography and collects maps from all over the world. He has a passion for music and always
enjoys listening to western classical music. Up to now, Prof. Jin has presented over 150 classical
music appreciation activities attended by more than 10000 people. He believes that listening to
classical music’s high-quality performances could reap spiritual comfort, acquire tranquility in
mind, generate optimistic thoughts, and promote behavior civilization.
