His Mormon faith drives about everything in his life. He lives moment to moment in prayer when necessary.
He credits his success to his religion, early working experience and his late wife, Jeneane. As he puts it: “She carried me for 45 years with a strength and determination that classifies as a miracle.”
He had to go to work at age 14 but still wanted to play sports and participate in other high school activities. He started stocking shelves in a grocery store. Within a year, he was leading the stocking team and had convinced management to pay for performance rather than by hour.
In other words, if he hired and managed the crew and got the job done in four hours instead of the usual eight, they would pay the crew for eight hours. On the other hand, if it took 10 hours, they would still pay for eight hours.
As a result, he was able to go through high school and college working part time, but being paid for full-time work.
King’s passion, as one might expect, is leadership.
For those readers familiar with the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) which measures one’s personality type including their intuitive ability, Jim is an ITSJ, which stands for Introverted, Thinking, Sensing and Judging.
On that scale Sensing is the opposite of Intuition. I suspect that the LDS church had a great deal of influence on Jim’s use of intuition. Jim is finely tuned to his senses but is also able to go within and ask for answers from his intuition.
Jim calls it getting answers from the divine presence.
“From a very early age, I sensed I had the ability to get a solution intuitively and then go for it.”
Jim served in Vietnam as a company commander. Here, in his words, he used his intuition to challenge the military plan.
