Focus completely, or as completely as possible, on your breath and the count. As thoughts come to your mind just observe them and let them go. This will take practice.
I have been meditating using this method for decades and find that it not only opens your mind to intuitive input, but enables you to reduce stress and tension, particularly when you want to accomplish more with your time.
Centering Prayer
This is a very old meditation that I find very effective if you want to get to a state of absolute nothingness (described in Wilber’s States of Consciousness, Chapter 6).
One powerful tool for this and any meditation is a free App offered by Contemplative Outreach, Ltd.
It is a “Centering Prayer” app designed for iPhone or iPad. I’m not sure whether there is a similar app for non-Apple products.
This free App has a timer with pleasant sounds to begin and end the meditation. It also has instructions for Centering Prayer. You can access it here...
