P. 287
Close your eyes and in your mind, pick a place that feels really good to you. Could be on the beach, in the woods, on a mountain, in the water. Ideally, when you think of it, it brings pleasant feelings to mind.
Describe the scene in as much detail as you can. What do you see, hear, smell, feel, taste?
Create a movie of the positive experience, again in as much detail as possible. Is it indoors, outdoors, cold or warm, sun up or down? What kind of mood are you in? Are there others in your movie?
After you are clear about the experience, open your eyes and write as much as you can about it, but at least three distinct views: What are you seeing? What are you hearing and what are you feeling?
Example
Karen and I are in a van headed towards Knoxville and the world’s fair. We have worked very hard to get to this point in our lives and look forward to a three-month sabbatical. The sun is out and we see the beautiful scenery as we move into middle Tennessee.
We have a seven-hour drive ahead of us and excitedly talk about what we will be doing together on each leg of our journey. Karen explains how much she enjoys thinking about our new home that we will move into when we get back in three months.
