This is a practice recommended by Spar Street and his wife Johanna Wilson, a friend and internationally known artist. I’ve yet to go the full 30 minutes, but even five or ten provide impact.
My wife, Karen, and I have just started the practice and the best word for it is “scary.” Walls begin to crumble, emotions long-buried under mountains of crud begin to surface — sometimes like a volcano — and guarded fears are brought to light.
We are not able to go a long time yet, but we are moving in the right direction. And as I talk with people about the importance of intimacy and intuition, I find I connect at a deeper level when looking deeply into their eyes.
One meditative process that works well for me is to look into my own eyes using a mirror for five minutes at a time.
When I do this, I often come in touch with a deep, unresolved pain. I am in the process of bringing this pain into light so it will no longer have the power to affect my relationships with others.
As Johanna Wilson says, “When you are angry, you often can’t see it, but others can and they instinctively (or maybe intuitively) shy away from you.”
