• Decrease the workload.
• Maintain her activity level just short of fatigue.
• Provide longer periods of sleep.
The mother is susceptible to infection:
• Perform and instruct her in proper hand washing.
• Maintain client’s hydration level.
• Observe type, amount and color of discharge.
• Encourage client to maintain caloric and protein intake.
• Avoid exposure to persons with known infectious processes.
Oral iron:
• Daily dose is between 120-180 mg.
• Women should be warned that;
o Stools may be turned black.
o Nausea and epigastric pain may occur.
o Diarrhea or constipation.
o This discomfort may be reduced by taking iron after meals.
Parenteral iron:
• Injection is contraindicated in case of liver or renal disease.
• Injection should not be given with oral iron to avoid toxic effect
Parenteral iron should be given deep into the muscle to prevent
abscess formation.
