• Dyspnea.
• Decreased ability to perform activity.
• Extreme fatigue.
• Edema.
Refer couples with thalassemia or sickle cell disease for genetic
screening.
Ensure frequent prenatal visit.
Nursing Care for Anemic Patient during Labor
• Monitoring of Hb concentration.
• Monitoring maternal condition; vital signs, contractions, signs of
exhaustion.
• Monitoring FHR.
• Monitoring for fetal and/or maternal distress
• Blood transfusion should be prepared if delivery is imminent.
• Instruct anemic patient to avoid bearing down in first stage.
• Patient is advised to sleep in lateral position.
