The Phoenix Founda on of Central Florida Raises
the Curtain for BPS Fine Arts

The Summer Fine Arts Theatre Workshop (SFATW) program is returning to Brevard Public Schools through  nancial support from The Phoenix Founda on of Central Florida. The Founda on will provide
$1 million in  nancial support over  ve years to provide grants for teachers as well as
fund the summer  ne arts
program.
The grant program, Morning Glow, is available to music teachers and theater teachers and managers. They may apply for up to $25,000 per applica on to be used in building, reviving, renova ng, providing supplies for school music and theater programs. Recipients will be selected
by a commi ee, and grants will be awarded bi-annually in April and November.

teacher for K-12 music said: “We are excited to resurrect the Summer Fine Arts Theatre Workshop. It has been sorely missed. We are so grateful to the Phoenix Founda on of Central Florida for providing the funding for this impac ul program and for grants for our music teachers, theater teachers and theater managers. The Phoenix Founda on of Central Florida is making a di erence in the lives of our BPS students and teachers.”
The district hosted summer theater workshops for nearly 30 years un l 2010 when the program was cut due to lack of funding. The Phoenix Founda on is dedica ng half of their dona on to reinstate the program.
The workshops begin May 30 and are open to
incoming ninth grade students through rising seniors. The program is free, but students must apply to par cipate. Applica on informa on will be available by early April. Students will receive a  ne arts credit for their involvement. Transporta on will be provided, also funded by the founda on.
Titusville High School will host the workshops and produc on of “Barnum” for the North and Central areas. The book for “Barnum” was wri en by Mark Bramble, with lyrics by Michael Stewart and music by Cy Coleman. “Barnum” was originally produced on the Broadway stage by Judy Gordon, Cy Coleman, Maurice and
Lois F. Rosenfeld in associa on with Irwin Feld and Kenneth Feld. “Barnum” is produced by arrangement with Tams-Witmark Music Library, Inc., 560 Lexington Avenue, New York, NY 10022.
Satellite High will host the workshops and produc on of “Chess” for the South Area. The book for “Chess” is by Richard Nelson with lyrics by Tim Rice and
music by Bjorn Ulvaeus
and Benny Andersson. “Chess” is presented by special arrangement with Samuel French, Inc. Both performances are scheduled for June 28-30.
