Space Coast TPO Shares Spring Break Safety Tips for Motorists

As Brevard Public Schools celebrates Spring Break, the Space Coast Transporta on Planning Organiza on is reminding motorists to take extra safety precau ons while driving in their ci es and neighborhoods.
Here are a few things motorists and parents can do to ensure the safety of children near tra c, during Spring Break:
· Pay special a en on to your speed, especially when children are present.
· Be alert to children who might dart into the street without looking.
· Be careful on streets lined with parked cars, as children could be between or behind vehicles, out of your line of sight.
· In neighborhoods, turn corners slowly and scan the perimeter for children.
· Back out of driveways slowly, children may be walking/ bicycling behind you and be hard to see.
· Use extra care in neighborhoods where children are more likely to be present, especially if there are no sidewalks in the area.
· Keep your eyes on the road and avoid other distrac ons, such as tex ng,
· Give younger children more  me in crosswalk; they walk slower and will take longer to get across the road.
As parents, you can set the example and be a good role model when prac cing safe driving techniques. We all must play a role in the safety of our communi es in raising the next genera on of road users.
