Now Open! – 2018 Walk to School Day Registration
By Abby Rex, Public Involvement Officer,
Space Coast Transportation Planning Organization
The Space Coast Transportation Planning Organization (SCTPO) is excited to once again announce this year’s Walk to School Day scheduled for October 10, 2018.
The SCTPO has helped coordinate this event since its beginning 22 years ago. Brevard is recognized, state-wide, as one of the highest participating counties.
This year, we are determined to have the largest participation yet! Your school can participate in many ways such as:
• Coordinating a walking event
• Planning Pedestrian Safety Lessons
• Announcing in school communications (Blackboard, Peachjar, marquee, school newsletter, morning announcements, etc.)
Walk to School Day is designed to remind both parents and students about the pleasure of walking to school and how simple one-day events can led to great changes in the community. Such changes include long-term walking and bicycling programs, new sidewalks and pathways, enforcement of unsafe driving behaviors and needed policy changes at schools and in communities.
Parents, please join us in celebrating this national event by encouraging your child to walk to school or set the example by walking with them to promote this noteworthy event.
