“I want to rival Silicon Valley and build the best STEM program,” Susin said. “Brevard has the highest concentration of degreed engineers in the country. There’s no reason we shouldn’t be leading the nation in STEM.”
District 5’s new
representative, Matt
Susin of Viera, taught at
BPS for nine years. He
cites the All American
Flag Act as his greatest
teaching accomplishment.
Susin, along with
countless students,
veterans, and community
leaders, were able to get
the state legislature to
enact a law that all flags
flying or purchased for
use at any local, county, or
state government building
in Florida must be made
in the United States.
Governor Rick Scott was
on hand for a ceremonial bill signing at Viera High School last year.
Susin, a classical music lover, and his wife, Jennifer, who works for the district training new teachers, live in Viera with their six month old son, Matthew. He also two daughters. A five year old and

I felt like the board needed a teacher’s perspective,” he said. He hopes BPS will build the best career and technical education program in Florida so companies who employ these people will move their business here.
