Art teachers: Want to go to Arrowmont?
BPS staffers at ESF and other locations raised $4,500 for its Giving from the Heart holiday fundraiser. This amount does not include all the gifts and gift wrappings donated in support of the adopted families.
“It was a perfect storm of troubling events during this time in my life,” Blackmon said. “I just started working again, our house was on the flipside of the market, we had recently gotten into a car accident, and my oldest child was heading to college. I remember being worried about gifts that year for our kids. However, unbeknownst to me, my name was put into the recipient list of Giving from the Heart. Not only was I able to get proper gifts for my kids, but to not worry about food for the holidays was also an extreme blessing to my family.”
Giving from the Heart was set up to help BPS families in need during the holiday season. Family wish lists are adopted and filled, departments at ESF hold fundraisers, and many volunteer hours are given to put together a very memorable holiday for folks who may be going through a rough period.
In this season of giving, BPS benefits from the caring community within it and the one that surrounds it. “BPS cares about you, whether you know it or not. They help without question or expectation,” Blackmon said. “BPS is truly a family.”
Two years ago, Fonyea Blackmon in the district’s office of testing and accountability, was one of the recipients in the Giving from the Heart program.
