The girls track team from Jackson Middle are county champs.
Andrew Jackson Middle School
Led by coaches Angela Bentley Henry and Coleen Hughes, Jackson Middle’s girls track team became back-to-back county champions by winning the 2018 Brevard County Girls Track Championships! The team from Titusville also won the championship last year. Competing at the same high level as they did in 2017 was the main focus throughout the season for the students. Throughout this season, they worked very hard improving and perfecting their times in running events, establishing flawless handoffs in relays, and establishing superior distances in the field events. All of their hard work and desire to be the best paid off at the county track meet which was held at Satellite High School’s new track on March 21, 2018. The Jackson Girls impressively outscored their competition. Jackson scored 130 overall points compared to other schools’ scores of
50.5 and 49 points.

Southwest Middle
Media Specialist Carrie Friday created March Madness at Southwest Middle in Palm Bay. Friday created a bracket for students to vote for 64 of their favorite books and eliminate their literary competition. In the end, The Crossover by Kwame Alexander claimed the championship. Coincidentally, Alexander’s newest book Rebound was released in early April. The school hosted a launch party
for the book, which is a prequel to The Crossover. Friday’s innovative ideas have motivated students to log more than 2,788 books so far for the year. Students read 2,439 total last year.
