  BPS young male leaders
More than 6,000 young men from
Brevard schools gathered to develop their leadership skills. Through the Tied Together organization, male community leaders visit secondary schools and teach male students how to shake hands, tie ties and build self- confidence. The mission of Tied Together is to influence young men in their early adult development to help them have a positive self-image and self-worth.

Viera High
Viera High students recently competed in the Florida State Spanish Conference (FSSC). The FSSC is a competition for high school Spanish students to give them an opportunity to compete in the fields of declamation, impromptu speech and dramatic presentations in the Spanish language. Forty-nine schools participated this year. The Viera team of 16 students, the majority being
non-native, won first place overall in their division. Out of 120 Seniors, Viera High Senior Peter Karmaker won a $100 scholarship for his essay.

Trey Schaneville, a senior at Viera High, was selected as one of only 24 FHSAA student-athletes to be on the 2018 Academic All-State team. The program honors
graduating seniors who excel in both athletics and academics. Schaneville also received the Distinguished Panther Academic Award from his future college, Florida Institute of Technology, where he plans to study business and sports management in the fall. Schaneville is a multi- sport athlete earning varsity letters in football, basketball and track and field. He is the all-time leading scorer in both basketball and football at his school. He served as his high school representative for the Cape Coast Conference Leadership Council. In addition to serving as a camp counselor for youth sport camps, Schaneville volunteered with the Viera Suntree Little League-Challenger that provides
children with physical and developmental disabilities the opportunity
to participate in athletic events. Schaneville is the school’s second Academic All- State honoree.
