Golfview Celebrates African American History Month
Students and staff at Golfview Elementary celebrated African American History Month with a spotlight on literacy. The school hosted an African American Read-In, sponsored by the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE). Members of the community visited classrooms to share a book or media presentation that featured professional African American writers.
Golfview also held its 2nd Annual African American History Month Showcase, where students and members of the community performed artistic presentations celebrating the time during the Renaissance. Students were challenged through writing, as well as visual and spoken art, to highlight non-traditional famous African Americans, all with
the goal of ensuring that African American History is American History.
