Regional Conference Recap
“Making the Case for HISTORIC Theatres”
Fort Wayne, IN - April 5-6, 2017
“Thank-you so much for all of your work with LHAT.
I attended my first conference last week in Fort
Wayne. I wish that I would have joined 3 years ago
when I first took over as Director at the Murphy
Theatre. The amount of information was incredible
and somewhat overwhelming.”
-- Maretta Alden, Executive Director,
The Historic Murphy Theatre, Wilmington, OH
Following its spring board meeting, the League’s
Board of Directors hosted a 1.5 day Regional
Conference to discuss historic theatre best
practices from around the nation. The board
meeting and conference were hosted by The
Embassy Theatre Foundation at its breathtaking
1928 Eberson-designed theatre and new
conference center.
In addition to networking with LHAT Board
members, participants attended engaging educational sessions that provided
practical and pertinent insights led by the leaders in the field of historic theatre
restoration, renovation and maintenance as well as theatre operations and
fundraising. The Embassy also hosted a lovely reception in the theatre, introducing
the LHAT Board and conference attendees to the Embassy’s board of directors and
local preservation and arts group representatives.
The LHAT Board was also treated to a special tour of one of our other member
theatres in Fort Wayne -- Arts United Center, designed in 1962 by Louis Kahn.
