 Dependence on Large Employers





 Around 1,925 businesses are located in Barrow and the business base has declined by 4.2% (-85) since 2015.


 A large proportion (90%) of Barrow’s businesses are micro in size, employing less than 10 people, which is in line with
 comparator geographies. At 9.1%, there is a stronger presence of small businesses in Barrow relative to both Cumbria and

 England.

 At the other end of the spectrum, there are 5 (0.3%)
 businesses employing more than 250 people. The
