Patrick O. High is a full-time student at Xavier University of
Louisiana (XULA) pursuing an undergraduate degree on the pre-
med track. His educational journey will continue beyond his
undergraduate degree heading to medical school fall 2023. Patrick
is a native of Harvey, Illinois as well as attended elementary and
middle school in Harvey School District 152. He was one of the
middle school students who implemented a peer jury which allows
students to best determine the outcome of another student’s
infraction. Though peer juries are not considered a Restorative
Practice, peer juries are an alternative to punitive consequences.
As a young adult, Patrick has been able to use the power of self-
reflection to understand the way his life was greatly affected by his
surroundings. He has been able to use those experiences as he
entered higher education, in his course work, and ways to give
back to the south suburban Cook County areas that helped shape
him into the young man he is today. He is one of the researchers
and interns for the Cook County Southland Juvenile Justice
Council and Purple Path as well as a student employee at
XULA. Patrick has a great support system that consists of his
biological parents and parents sent by love, his grandmothers, and
his siblings.
