Buildings and Grounds
Projects
- The Building Automation project at Rich South is still underway. We were originally
waiting until spring break to shut down systems for upgrade, but due to the current emergency
closing we are able to accomplish that earlier. We have given strict guidelines to the contractor
which include a crew of only 1-3 people, a list of areas each day they will be working so we can
clean and disinfect behind them, proper social distancing with persons in the building, and that no
worker be on site that has any symptoms of illness. This project is running on time and we don’t
anticipate any delays associated with the Covid-19 situation.
- The asbestos abatement projects that were outlines last month are still moving forward over
the week of Spring Break. The District has posted the information to each schools web page along
with the Buildings and Grounds web page.
Updates
- The Buildings and Grounds Department is still working during the shutdown, but we have
altered work times and shifts in order to keep our staff in a safe working environment while also
continuing to clean and disinfect areas of the buildings that have had people in them throughout the
day. We are running two custodial shifts, one in the AM and one in the PM, with reduced amounts
of staff per day working on a rotational basis. Our grounds and maintenance crews are also
working on a shorter rotational basis in order to maintain our vital systems and perform necessary
maintenance work.
- Our campuses have begun their spring applications of fertilizer and weed control. We
follow the required posting guidelines for herbicide and pesticide applications. Our grounds staff
that applies the product is trained and certified through the State of Illinois to perform the work
safely and properly. They are required to maintain the proper certifications and are retested and re-
certified every three years.
