Introduction
In December 2019, a new disease was identified in China. On investigation, the disease was
caused by a new virus of the coronavirus family, it has since been officially named
COVID-19.
It is believed that COVID-19 originated in a meat and live-animal market in the city of
Wuhan in the province of Hubei in the country of China. It subsequently spread to other
countries and was officially pronounced a pandemic by the World Health Organization on
11 March 2020.
Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is an infectious disease caused by a newly discovered
coronavirus.
Most people infected with the COVID-19 virus will experience mild to moderate
respiratory illness and recover without requiring special treatment. Older people, and those
with underlying medical problems like cardiovascular disease, diabetes, chronic respiratory
disease, and cancer are more likely to develop serious illness.
The best way to prevent and slow down transmission is be well informed about the
COVID-19 virus, the disease it causes and how it spreads. Protect yourself and others from
