WINTER PRIMESTOCK SHOWS
Once again Beltex-sired lambs proved to be the start
attraction at the Scottish National Fatstock Club’s
Premier Meat Exhibition when they secured the
Champion and Reserve tickets both on the hook and
on the hoof as well as many of the other red rosettes.
Claiming the Live
Championship was
an entry from the Hall
family at Inglewood
Edge, with the Baillies
from Carstairs Mains
taking the Reserve.
A few days later Willie
Stevenson, Coilavoulin,
won the Carcase
Championship with
Michael Rattray from
West Park in Reserve. This also landed Willie the trophy for best
lamb sired by a Beltex, with Michael also winning the trophy
for the best export lamb.

ENGLISH WINTER FAIR 19 & 20 NOVEMBER
A long road south from Cumbria was made more than
worthwhile for the Hall family from Inglewood Edge
when they claimed the AR Bulmer Championship Cup
for the best pair of prime lambs at the English Winter
Fair on 18 and 19 November.
The family – John Hall together with daughter, Joanne, her
daughter April Skelton, and their able helpers, Chloe Hunter
and Zoe Glendinning – claimed no fewer than four first prize
tickets but it was their untrimmed duo from the 70kg to 80kg
class that rose to the top having secured the Untrimmed
Championship before going on to stand Supreme.
The duo which tipped the scales at a combined 78kg are by a
pedigree ram named Murrays Grassmen ET while their sires
are nearly pure Beltex crosses.
Tasked with the role of judging was Anthony Glaves, a Butcher
and retailer from Scarborough, North Yorkshire, who said he
was looking for a matching pair with good tops and loins that
were well fleshed with a bit of fat cover.
Of his Supreme Champion pair, he commented: “They were a
real good pair with tremendous tops, backend and ribs and
had very even proportions.”
Taking the Reserve Supreme spot was the Champion Pure-
bred pair from last year’s judge and debut exhibitor, Chris
