Index of Refraction



               The index of refraction (n) of a material is the ratio of

               the speed of light (c) in a vacuum to the speed of light

               in the material (v).





























               SNELL’S LAW



               When light travels from a material with one index of

               refraction to a material with a different index of refraction,

               the angle of incidence is related to the angle of refraction by:



               n  1 sin θ       1 = n      2 sin θ       2
