Department Introduction
National Kaohsiung University of Science and Technology (NKUST) was established on February 1, 2018 by the merger
of three universities: National Kaohsiung University of Applied Sciences, National Kaohsiung First University of Science
and Technology, and National Kaohsiung Marine University. On August, 2001, the first “Human Resources Development
Department” in the system of four-year technical university was established in Taiwan, and it is under the “Humanities and
Social Sciences College”. The first human resources master’s class and in-service master’s program in a domestic technical
vocational college were respectively set up in 2004 and 2005. The academic system of this department includes four
classes of 4-year College in the day school, two classes of the master's class, two classes of the in-service master’s program
in the extension and continuing education division. There are 322 students (including 232 in current university department,
30 in master's classes, and 62 in in-service master’s program)and 13 full-time professor (including 1 project professor and
1 assistant professor), 2 full-time administrative assistants, so there are 337 in total.
Educational goals
1.University Department: To cultivate human resources professionals with the knowledge of organizational development,
employee development and employee relationship management.
2.Graduate Institute: To cultivate senior human resources professionals who have abilities to accumulate, develop and
maintain human capital, also to innovate research and development and solve problems.
Department Features
1. The first human resources development department of the technical and vocational system is in line with the
development trend of professional and national talents.
2. Introduce diversified practice courses and strengthen practice-oriented learning.
3. Organize an off-campus internship for students to have a workplace experience in advance so as to get into the job
market successfully.
4. Establish Human Resource Information System (HRIS) to improve the practical ability.
5. Combine human resources and applications of Big Data analytics to effectively assist and improve corporate human
resources strategic planning.
Career Directions
After graduating from this department, students will have the following directions to choose from:
1. Continue to study for master's degree in human resources, business management, industrial relations, labor and other
related graduate institutes.
2. Enter an official or a private enterprise to work in human resources or personnel department.
3. Work in the personnel, labor administration, employment services and other departments of governments at all levels.
4. Enter non-profit organizations for human resource development, corporate education and training, and employee
relationship management.
5. Enter management consulting firms or human resources agencies to engage in professional human resource consulting
services.
