or a provocative new four-part BBC One drama with the self- explanatory title Mistresses, Balasz Bolygo and Tim Palmer are sharing DP duties along
with a pair of directors, Philip John and SJ Clarkson, who is also co-cre- ator of the series.
Sarah Parish, Orla Brady, Sharon Small and Shelley Conn star in Mistresses, shooting in Bristol, which follows the lives of four women and their involvement in an array of illicit and complex relationships.
Bolygo chose to use Fujifilm’s newest film stock, Vivid 160T, for
Mistresses due, he said, “to its superi- or sharpness, which on 16mm is a must in the current advent of HD deliverables, as well as for its unique high contrast and edgier colour response in mixed lighting situations.
“Having shot tests and the first week of principal photography on it, it fairly quickly became my ‘work horse’ stock and ended up shooting 90% of the first two episodes on it.
“All in all, the Vivid 160T definite ly had a key part to play in creating a slightly fresher look for a our new drama series,” Bolygo noted.
Mistresses will be aired on BBC One next year. ■

Joe Meek who killed himself five years later aged just 38.
Two years ago, it was a successful London stage play co-written by actor Nick Moran and James Hicks, and now Moran is making his directorial debut with a film version of Telstar, in which Con O’Neill recreates his role as Meek.
