KEY 6.5 The Cornell System has space for notes, comments, and a summary.

         Label a sheet of paper
with the date and title of
         the lecture.

         Create the cue column by
         drawing a vertical line
         about 2-½ inches from the
left side of the paper. End
         the line about 2 inches
         from the bottom of the
         sheet.

         Create the summary area
         by starting where the
         vertical line ends (about
         2 inches from the bottom
         of the page) and drawing
         a horizontal line across the
         paper.

Key 6.5 shows how the Cornell format was used to take notes in a business course.

                                   Mind Map

A mind map, also known as a think link or word web, is a visual form of note taking
that encourages flexible thinking and making connections. When you draw a mind
map, you use shapes and lines to connect ideas with supporting details and examples.
The visual design makes the connections easy to see, and shapes and pictures extend
                                   the material beyond words.
To create a mind map, start by circling or boxing your topic in the middle of the
paper. Next, draw a line from the topic and write the name of one major idea at the end
6 of the line. Circle that idea. Then, jot down specific facts related to the idea, linking
CHAPTER 152 them to the idea with more lines. Continue the process, identifying thoughts with words
