VIET NAM’S APEC YEAR
The APEC Leaders’ Meeting in 2006 was held in Ha Noi, Viet Nam in November 2006 under
the theme “Towards a Dynamic Community for Sustainable Development and Prosperity”
with a strong commitment towards achieving the vision of stability, security and prosperity
for the Asia-Pacific region.
Advancing free trade and investment would be most essential and APEC Leaders also
reaffirmed that support for the Doha Development Agenda remained a top priority of APEC.

Trade is the lifeline for many economies and the consequences of the
failure of the Doha Round would be too grave for the economies and the
global multilateral trading system.
Voices delegates continued their interview programs and interaction with
business leaders and gathered valuable insights on how trade can be
promoted through partnership and cooperation. The APEC CEO Summit
organizers rewarded the Voices students for their dedication to learning
and service by having a Voices representative from each APEC economy
share their APEC vision at the closing ceremony.

The APEC Leaders’ Meeting was held in Sydney in September
2007. At the leaders’ meeting, all APEC Leaders agreed that
their collective commitment to regional economic integration,
to free and open markets and to the security of our people
has contributed substantially to the strength of our economies
and has made significant improvements in the welfare

Climate change, energy security and clean development
were also topics that were discussed. Regional economic
integration is important and APEC economies’ commitment
to open markets and economic cooperation has generated
substantial regional integration. All member economies
had benefitted; economic growth in the region has
outstripped the rest of the world and the number of
people living in poverty in the region has halved since 1989.

The Sydney event was attended by more than 60 youth
delegates from the 10 APEC Member Economies. Voices
of the Future young leaders from Singapore organized the
APEC Youth Forum on building a sustainable future where
they shared about Singapore’s sustainable water resources
