In the three decades since the NYAA was founded, we have gone through many crises as a country – the Asian
Financial Crisis, SARS, the Global Financial Crisis, and most recently, the COVID-19 pandemic.

We have come through each of these crises with our spirits renewed and bonds strengthened. A key reason for
this has been the deep reserves that we were able to draw upon – the fiscal reserves that our forefathers had
painstakingly set aside, the reserves of grit and gumption, and the social reserves of trust and unity.

It is critical that each generation continues to deepen these reserves. I am glad that the NYAA has blossomed into
an impactful movement over the last thirty years, and given countless youths a platform to deepen our social
            reserves.

My warmest congratulations to the NYAA for reaching this milestone. As we look ahead to the next 30 years, I am
confident that the NYAA and our youths will continue to make Singapore and the world an even better place.
