One rainy Sunday evening (27 Apr)…. I like to eat
Wanton noodles! I feel like eating satay! Fried chicken is
my favourite! I want to eat fishball noodles! Let’s go to
Chong Pang Hawker Centre for dinner.

What we learnt about Singapore’s hawker culture?
            The charm of hawker culture is the wide variety of food;
it serves food types from breakfast, lunch, tea, to dinner.
There are even drinks, desserts and snacks. All under
one roof! There is definitely something for everyone to
eat and drink - “regardless of race, language or religion.”
It is a national icon and draws people from all over the
world to come to Singapore. At a hawker centre, people
can meet up, dine, drink coffee and chit-chat over food
that has many years of heritage, as some stalls have
been in business for decades. This culture will continue
for many years to come and allow future generations
to enjoy this valuable experience, including the well-
            ventilated environment without air conditioning.

Here we are enjoying the yummy hawker food! I learnt that a hawker centre has many stalls selling
After eating, we went back to thank the hawkers for the different cuisines, so people of various cultures, races,
delicious food. Look at our happy faces and satisfied and ages can bond together as one over food!

Our reflections Through this experience, I learnt that there are a lot of
During my visit, I found out that the hawkers have many stalls with diverse food options selling delicious food,
years of experience, show dedication to their job, and and the food is very affordable.
bring delicious food to all their customers! ~Euliel

It was raining heavily that day. But, we were warmed “Rain or shine, hawker centres bring people
by the food and the hawkers themselves! As they were together — with warm food, kind hawkers, and
all eager to answer our questions and serve us our food
            orders! flavours for everyone.”

Hawker centres are sheltered food havens! Tan Qi Hao, Sng Sheng Jie
