Laksa Siglap was a dish that was foreign to me. I just
found out when I bought it at the Geylang Serai Market.
The meal was delicious and had a hint of spices. I love
herbs and deliciousness. According to my research,
Laksa Siglap is a Malay dish that stands out from other
styles of laksa, like Katong Laksa, and is considered a
“nearly forgotten gem”.
While it is not as widely available as other varieties
of laksa, Laksa Siglap is unique to Singapore, known
for its rich, coconut milk-based broth with fish stock,
tamarind, and a special “rempah” blend of delicious and
flavourful spices. It is believed that it originated from the
coastal fishermen from the village of Kampung Siglap in “Laksa Siglap isn’t just delicious — it’s a
Singapore. nearly forgotten gem that tells the story of
our Malay heritage and Singapore’s history.”
Warong Solo, which sells Laksa Siglap, was founded in
1965 at the Geylang Serai Market. The original Geylang
Serai Market was opened on 17 April 1964 by then
Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew as part of the 1962 plan Nor Amani Binte Mohamed Fadli
to modernise Geylang Serai. In summary, this dish and P4 Joy
the Geylang Serai Market have rich histories in the North View Primary School
Malay community and Singapore. After tasting the dish,
I would eat it again because it was a delicious journey
down my stomach.
