Every Saturday morning, I go straight to Mrs Soh’s
legendary wanton stall at Bukit Canberra Hawker Centre.
The long line of people is always expected, but I still join
the queue happily because I know her food is worth the
            wait.

I have been going to her stall for many weeks, and I never
get tired of eating her wanton noodles. One Saturday,
I finally got brave enough to ask, “Auntie, how do you
make all these yummy bowls of wanton noodles?”

She smiled and said kindly, “I put all my heart and love
into every bowl of wanton noodles I make, so I can give
the public one of the best bowls to eat and enjoy.”

Those words stayed in my mind.

Each wanton is mouthwatering. They are soft, juicy, and Mrs Soh’s wanton noodles do more than fill my tummy.
full of flavour. The noodles are springy and covered in They give me confidence, strength, and hope. Every

As I watched her at work, I noticed how focused and
tireless she was. Her hands moved quickly and smoothly.
I was impressed that she was boiling noodles, folding
wantons, ladling soup, and collecting payment, all while “Mrs Soh’s wanton noodles don’t just fill my
smiling and chatting with her customers. tummy — they remind me that love, hard

She started before sunrise and did not stop until the work, and kindness can make ordinary people
lunch crowd thinned. Not once did she pause or look extraordinary.”
tired. Mrs Soh is more than just a good cook. She is truly
            inspiring. Annabella Safian

I am thankful I got the chance to speak with her. She Endeavour Primary School
shows that hawker culture is not just about cheap food,
but about everyday heroes who put love and effort into
their cooking to bring joy to others.
