Laundry Loft
Introduction
Laundry Loft has two outlets in Downtown East and Wisteria
shopping mall. Its offers a wide range of quality laundry
services, such as self-service coin-operated laundry services
and dry cleaning. It also provides washing and ironing
services. (Figure 1 and 2)
Each outlet is operational 24 hours a day; thus, one of the
main benefits is that anyone can come and do their laundry,
washing, and drying at any given time. The outlets are
also air-conditioned. Thus, the users are in a comfortable Figure 1: Front view of Laundry Loft
environment whenever they use Laundry Loft services.
To maintain the standards of the washers and dryers, the
equipment is cleaned using a soda wash once every two
days to remove excess detergent and residue.
Objectives
The primary objective of this study was to collaborate
with Mr Kevin Soh, the proprietor of Laundry Loft, to
review the business’s daily operational procedures and
identify potential opportunities for optimising energy
usage. The focus was on analysing the workflow within the
establishment, particularly customer utilisation of laundry Figure 2: Inside view of Laundry Loft
and drying facilities.
Upon entering the premises, customers typically engage in
a two-step process: washing & drying. The establishment
offers a variety of wash cycles tailored to different types
of laundry, complemented by an array of dryer functions
designed to suit various fabric types and preferences, as
outlined in Table 1.
