In conclusion both for-profit and non-profit sporting structures come with advantages and
disadvantages with the biggest drawback for FPOs being taxes. And while these both of these types of
sporting structures have significantly different mission statements and objective their influence in sport
overlaps. Most NPOs focus on the development of the sport and mass participation and while they
mainly operate on a community basis and focus on the recreational aspects of the sport, there are cases
where NPOs create programs and pathways for talent identification. The main focuses of FPOs are to
generate income and in a sporting context this involves performing at the elite level of the sport, as a
result development pathways and opportunities within the sport are created. although these elements
are a byproduct of the main goals of FPOs it overlaps with the main objectives of NPOs making it evident
that both types of sporting structures are required in the industry.
