SPEAKERS - Day 1 Rory Cooper
Rory is a FISA Foundation and Paralyzed Veterans of
America (PVA) Distinguished Professor at the University
of Pittsburgh. He is Founder-Director and VA Senior
Research Career Scientist of the Human Engineering
Research Laboratories a VA Rehabilitation R&D Center.
He is an adjunct professor of Robotics at Carnegie Mellon
University, and Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation at the
Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences. Rory has
authored or co-authored over 375 peer-reviewed journal publications, and has over 30 patents awarded or pending.
Spencer Quiel, Ph.D., PE
Spencer is an associate professor of structural engineering at Lehigh University. His research focuses on structural resistance and resilience to extreme loads, particularly
fire, blast, and progressive collapse. Spencer is currently
a co-PI for the Lehigh University consortium site for the UTC for Underground Transportation Infrastructure (UTC- UTI), which is based at the Colorado School of Mines.
His research for UTC-UTI focuses on the response of tunnel structures and systems to severe fire and blast hazards.
Erick Guerra, Ph.D.
Erick is Associate Professor and Associate Chair in the
Department of City and Regional Planning at University
of Pennsylvania, where he also directs the Cooperative
Mobility for Competitive Megaregions University
Transportation Center. His research focuses on the
relationship between land use, transportation systems, and
travel behavior with an emphasis on rapidly motorizing
cities, public health outcomes, and transportation technologies.
He teaches courses in transportation planning and quantitative planning methods.
