The Rialto Cinema
Before Netflix, before TikTok, before even multiplexes there were...cin-
emas. They showed one, yes, ONE film at a time, for a week. They had
one screen, usually one person selling the tickets, working the projector
and selling the Kia-Ora orange drink that would probably be classified
as a Class A drug these days. They were usually a bit chilly and the
film often broke down half way through, but we saw some great films
at them and this old image of The Rialto cinema in Raynes Park on
Coombe Lane on what is now the one-way system was the local 'flea-
pit'. Sharing space with a taxi firm and some kind of outfitters it was, in
its time, the only place in SW20, to see Bond. James Bond...
