LIVENING ELECTRICAL WORKS POLICY
Step 1
Visual inspection. A full check list can be found in section 8.2.2 of 3000:2018 Some are listed below as common scenarios:
• All power outlets are screwed to the wall.
• All light switches are screwed to the wall.
• All cables that are part of a circuit to be livened are fully protected by
way of connectors in junction box or behind a blank plate. Taping up
a cable that you are livening is not acceptable form of protection.
• All cables NOT on a circuit that is being livened are taped up as a
precaution.
• All light fittings are installed or control is isolated from light switch.
• All cables outside or in damp situations, must be taped up at time of
prewire.
Step 2
Follow test procedures for testing and verification. (Fig 8.1 of 3000:2018)
• Visual.
• Earth Conductor resistance.
• Bonding resistance.
• Insulation resistance.

When you have completed the pre livening tests email your test results to
admin@gtelectrical.co.nz. Energize circuit/installation.
Step 5
Complete test procedures for Live testing. • Voltage
• Polarity (with independent earth).
• Earth fault loop.
• RCD testing.
Step 6
When you have completed the full test sheet, email it to admin@gtelectrical.co.nz using your job number as the subject. It will be loaded to your job for records.
Completed any relevant paperwork, eg COC, ESC
Step 7
Clean up the area, Leaving a tidy site is important!
