HEALTH & SAFETY VEHICLES POLICY

Vehicles
1.1. Use of Employee’s Personal Vehicle for Employer’s Business
1.1.1. Should the Employee be required to use their personal vehicle to carry out the Employer’s business the Employee must:

Comply with all the Employer’s policies and procedures in regard to vehicles; Retain a full New Zealand Driver’s Licence at all times;
Operate the vehicle giving full and appropriate consideration to road safety and the safety of other road users and in a manner that will not bring discredit to the Employer;
Keep the vehicle’s warrant of fitness and registration current;
Comply with the New Zealand Road Code and New Zealand Traffic Regulations; and Maintain a minimum of third party insurance
1.2. Use of Employer’s Vehicle
1.2.1. As part of the Employee’s duties the Employee may be required to drive a company vehicle.
1.2.2. Company vehicles may only be used during work hours and for the purposes of travel between the Employee’s home and the place of work. The Employer’s policies and procedures in regard to vehicles must be adhered to as outlined in company policy documentation.
1.2.3. The Employee is responsible for the vehicle’s security and general condition. The Employee must immediately notify the Employer of any repairs or maintenance that the vehicle requires, or costs incurred in respect or by the vehicle must be reported to the Employer immediately. If damage is caused through the fault of the Employee then the Employee may be required to pay the insurance excess, or cost of repair, whichever is the lesser. If the Employee’s actions have invalidated the Employer’s insurance the Employee must pay the cost of repair and such costs may be deducted from the Employee’s wage.
1.2.4. The Employee may be required to sign a company vehicle insurance form which will be supplied to the Employer’s insurance company. The Employer’s insurance company may wish to carry out a background check on the Employee’s driving record and the Employee must consent to the check and cooperate as necessary.
1.2.5. The Employer’s fuel account is only to be used by employees for fuel and oil for company vehicles during the Employee’s working hours. Misuse of the fuel account is serious misconduct and may result in dismissal.
