An interview with House Committee Chair Mr. MJles Mindham

Carlos Verde (T he YORK Club, CV): Mr. Mindham,
the most pressing issue at the H ouse Committee level has
obviously been adjusting the programming calendar for
the forthcoming renovation project. What have been the
Committee's driving goals entering the construction
period?
Mr. Myles Mindham (MNI): We are truly lucky to have
such an engaged and resourceful group of individuals,
and it has been a welcome challenge to undertake at a
very exciting time for the Club.
It's primarily been about pivoting our events to help
assist with operations as the Club goes into this
transformative time, while understanding the
membership has grown and its demographics have
changed.
Key statistics that are reflected in our planning are the
fact 51 per cent of our membership is female, and well
over a quarter of our membership is new in the last five
years.
We want to reflect that in the sort of informative and
upbeat events we are offering.
CV: This coming year will see the debut of the
Rehearsal Series, a number of off-site visits to
closed-door performances at significant institutions.
MM: We have to acknowledge the Rehearsal Series will
be in lieu of having the Garden, and to fill the gap
created by the absence of the Summer Music Series
which are ever popular with our Members.
We have wonderful relationships with the cultural
organizations of Toronto, and are very fortunate to be
able to bring f01ward opportunities like these
back-of-house rehearsal events.
For New l\!Iembers who may not be as deeply involved
in the city's arts scene, it is an especially exciting
opportunity!
Whether it be the new Rehearsal Series or other unique
