hedden hITCh
The Prusik hitch grabs when the loop is pulled from
any direction. But it only has moderate grabbing
power and can sometimes be difficult to release. If
the loop will only be loaded from one direction, the
Hedden hitch is a superior alternative. This is the best
choice for ascending a line. An inferior version of this
hitch is called the klemheist knot; it’s essentially the
same but upside down and has less holding power.
1. start at the bottom and
wrap the loop two or three
times around the rope, spi-
raling upward.
