The Chairman of the Advisory Committee shall submit to
the Dean of OLC a report on the result of the examination
within one (1) week after the examination.
If the student fails the qualifying examination, an oral
examination within one (1) week after the first examination may
be allowed subject to the unanimous approval of the Advisory
Committee. If the student fails in the re-examination, he shall
be permanently disqualified from the program.
15. Comprehensive Examination
A graduate student taking courses with thesis/dissertation who
has completed all the academic requirements prescribed in his
approved plan of course work shall apply for a written
comprehensive examination. Application for comprehensive
examination shall be submitted for approval to the Dean of OLC
not later than one month before the date of examination. This
shall be endorsed by the Advisory Committee and recommended
by the OLC Department Chairperson concerned.
The OLC Department chairperson concerned shall
consolidate all the questions taken from the professors of the
student. His department shall administer the written
comprehensive examinations. A written examination shall be
given for each area (Core, Major, Cognate courses) indicated in
the graduate student’s plan of course work. A student must
pass the examination in each of the three areas.
The OLC Department Chairperson concerned shall
submit to the Dean of OLC a report on the result of the written
examination two (2) weeks after the examination.
A student shall be allowed to take the written
comprehensive examination in all or any of the three (3) areas
only twice. The second examination must be taken and passed
within one (1) year after the first examination.
Oral examination shall be given after passing the written
examination. The details of the examination shall be left to the
discretion of the Advisory Committee. A unanimous “passing”
vote of the members of the Committee is required in order to
pass the oral examination.
