Definitions

Standards Manual A documented, up to date, record of the standards
applied for maintenance, inspection and repair.

Wear Limits / Tolerances Maximum or minimum requirements for component
replacement or repair to avoid potential failure.

Defect A fault with any part of the vehicle or component(s)
whereby there is a shortcoming in its intended use
that requires repair prior to return to service.

Preventative Maintenance Maintenance (repair or replacement) that is
regularly performed on a piece of equipment to
lessen the likelihood of it failing.

Condition Monitoring Monitoring a parameter of condition of a
component in order to identify change which is
indicative of a developing fault.

Authorised Person A person with defined authority to undertake tasks
and make decisions on roadworthiness.

Third Party A person or group who is not primarily involved
with the operation (for example of recovery firm).
