1.0 Vehicle Specification
Group Companies must ensure that new vehicle specifications meet all of the required legislative
requirements for their market and where appropriate consider the requirement for additional fire
suppression and extinguishing equipment.
Each Group Company must consider variations in vehicle type and the type of service and customers
carried, for example, means of escape, exit provision and clear signage.
Each Group Company must draw on previous experience and the results of any fire incident investigations
and near misses to modify and amend the specification where appropriate.
2.0 Vehicle Maintenance
2.1 Parts Replacement
Group Companies must ensure that any parts sourced to maintain or repair fire suppression and
extinguishing equipment meet all local legislative requirements and, specifically for fire suppression, are
sourced from the original equipment manufacturer (OEM).
2.2 Vehicle Repair
Group Companies must make all maintenance personnel aware of the importance of replacement of
components on a like for like basis, and unless specifically approved by an authorised modification, items
should be supplied and fitted in their original location and where applicable, their original routing and fixing.
This is particularly important with regard, but not limited, to:
Wiring harnesses
Fuel lines
Battery cables
Air system pipe work
Heat and grease shields including fire retardancy bulkhead material
Group Companies must have standards in place to ensure that
Engines are washed after fuel system repairs to remove any excess or spilt fuel
The method and location of clipping, clamping and fixings are replaced as originally supplied by the
manufacturer.
Heat and grease shields are replaced if damaged or lost
Engine undertrays are refitted after maintenance and or replaced if lost
