This list is not exhaustive but identifies the minimum inspection criteria for known contributors to fires.
Group Companies must ensure their policy of inspection includes previous experience and the results of
any fire incident investigations and near misses.

Where significant risk of fire is identified Local Engineering Managers must be given the authority to
remove the vehicle from service until repaired.

4.0 Vehicle Modifications

Each Group Company must ensure they have a written policy that includes clear instructions for the
approval of vehicle modifications that considers the risk of fire and unintended outcomes.

Specific areas that must be considered are, adding additional load to electrical systems, re-routing of air
pipes, harnesses and fuel lines and the reduction of ventilation within the engine bay.
Of significant concern would be any penetration through the bulk head that might form an easy path for a
fire into the saloon.

5.0 Breakdown & Incident Reporting

Each Group Company must ensure they have written protocols to effectively manage incidents of fire, or
potential fire, whilst the vehicle is in service (or on the road).

5.1 Emergency Procedures

Each Group Company is responsible for defining the appropriate emergency procedures for their operation.
This will include:

Isolation of the vehicle including fuel taps if fitted
A strategy for emergency evacuation of all passengers – ensuring the vehicle is empty.
Evacuation of passengers to a safe distance
Prevention of escalation of fires (e.g. opening of bonnets and access panels etc)
Notifying the emergency services

Where emergencies arise the priority of the driver is to ensure safe evacuation of all passengers including
checking of all area toilets, upper saloon etc without endangering themselves or others.

Group Companies must ensure that clear and concise emergency procedures for drivers are defined and
implemented.
